About The Trout

The GrumpyOldTrout is a 43 year old Glaswegian living in the north of Scotland. She started the blog after swapping being a bad, big, old boss for being a bad, big, old stay-at-home mummy to 3 little minxes after the 3rd one was born. This blog catalogues how said minxes run rings round her and lists all the reasons why she is a grumpy old trout.  And proud of it.

  1. Hi, you used to write fantastic articles, but the last few posts have been kinda lackluster… I miss your tremendous articles. Past few posts are just a little out of track!

  2. Have you ever thought about publishing an e-book or guest authoring on other websites? I have a blog based on the same ideas you discuss and would love to have you share some stories/information. I know my visitors would appreciate your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an e-mail.

  3. This is absolutely gold. I was not expecting that I’d get so much out of reading your write up! You’ve just got yourself a returning visitor 🙂

  4. Awesome piece of information! May I reference part of this on my blog if I post a backlink to this webpage? Thx.

  5. Sweet blog! I found it while browsing on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Thank you

  6. Hello. This post was really remarkable, especially because I was looking for thoughts on this issue last week.

    • Hey, you’re welcome. I’m surprised that you were looking for thoughts on a grumpy old trout, but there you go, it’s amazing what people say to get through spam filters, eh? (alas I deleted your URL…)

  7. Thanks for the info. I am doing research for a term paper at PSU. Premature ejaculation is the sexual dysfunction I was given. So I can use this info.

  8. Dude, please tell me that youre going to create more. I notice you havent written an additional weblog for a while (Im just catching up myself). Your weblog is just also important to be missed. Youve received so considerably to say, such knowledge about this topic it would be a shame to see this blog disappear. The internet needs you, man!

    • In those immortal words: “I’m a lay-deeeee!”. Not a dude. Not now, or in the past. Sorry I had to delete your URL, but I like spam like this and wanted to post it, just for the hell of it.

  9. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    • No, it’s free. Just sign up to WordPress, read their online instructions, pick a theme you like the look of and off you go. It’s pretty easy to learn and there’s loads of help available. Good luck! If you set up a blog, remember to come back and leave a link to it 🙂

  10. Heya this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

    • ‘Both’ is the simple answer. You can choose whichever you prefer. Personally, I tend to use WYSIWYG to edit my posts on here, but when I do battle with my business website selling baby shoes (www.rainbowknits.co.uk), I tend to create a post with the WYSIWYG editor, then adapt it by tweaking the HTML code, switching back and forth between the visual editor and the HTML editor (2 simple tabs).

I recommend just getting yourself set up with a WordPress blog and having a mess around with it.

      Good luck and enjoy!

    • Hi there. Thanks for the offer, but no, I’m not – the whole point of my blog is to act as an online journal of my family life. It acts as an electronic memory aid for me, so I remember what my minxes got up to when they were babies. Good luck!

  24. You could certainly see your enthusiasm in the work you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers like you who are not afraid to say how they believe. Always go after your heart.

  25. Just rediscovered your blog when going through my old bookmarks on a now-defunct ‘puter – suspect I first found you through naturalmamas? Anyway, I clicked through to this page and had a wee giggle to myself – you might possibly want to update the ages of the minxes? Unless Midi really has managed 50 dojo points at age 2 of course, in which case congrats on having such genius daughters! ;-P

But seriously, it’s lovely to read about all the fun you get up to, and to be reminded that it’s not just me – chaos is perfectly normal when raising kids 🙂

    • Hehehehe, maybe I’ve just been subconsciously resisting updating my age to officially Old Fart post-40 status?! I’ll update that shortly – thanks for pointing it out. And I’m really glad you like reading my hand-wringing posts – in turn that reassures me that my failings and struggles and general child-rearing carnage are mostly normal, too 🙂
